SALISBURY — A woman was shot while visiting at a West Bank Street home early Friday morning and is expected to be fine, police said.

The victim, who police said does not live at the home, was sitting in the kitchen with three others including the homeowner, Dwayne Coward, at 815 W. Bank St., around 1 a.m. when she saw a flash from a gun and simultaneously heard three shots.

The woman was hit in the shoulder, despite ducking for cover, and was taken to Novant Health Rowan Medical Center’s emergency room by ambulance.

Police Capt. Brian Stallings said what the victim saw was the muzzle flash as the gun was being fired from outside the window.

He said the house was the target of the shooting. The shooting occurred at the back side of the house and the person had to walk up to the window on foot, Stallings said. No arrest has been made.

This is not the first time a shooting has occurred at this address. In January 2015, police exchanged gunfire with someone at the same address. No one was injured during that incident.
