SALISBURY — Police say a fight between two family members ended with one person being arrested and another with a broken arm. A man arrested came to the defense of another, police officials said.

Salisbury Police charged David Jumar White, 33, of the 500 block of East Cemetery Street, with misdemeanor assault with inflicting serious injury. He was issued a $10,000 secured bond and has since been released from the Rowan County Detention Center.

Police initially responded to 504 E. Cemetery St. after dispatchers received a 911 call hang up. The caller said there was going to be a shooting in the area. Officers went to the area where the call was made and came across David White and Kapetra “KP” Lyerly.

Lyerly, 34, told them she was the caller, and police noted she had an obvious broken arm. A report said her arm was broken between her wrist to her elbow. She told police White shoved her off a porch and she broke her arm in the fall.

Police Capt. Shelia Lingle said there was an altercation between Lyerly and one of her relatives. White tried to defend that relative.

Lingle said alcohol was involved in the incident.

In September, White was charged with cocaine possession after police saw him selling drugs from an East Cemetery Street home. Police had been watching the home after receiving several complaints of drug activity.

He has a number of felony convictions including assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, possession of a firearm by a felony, possession of stolen goods, assault inflicting serious injury, possession of a firearm by a felon, possession with intent to sell and deliver a counterfeit controlled substance, receiving a stolen vehicle, possession with intent to sell a schedule VI substance, and possession of a schedule II controlled substance.

White has a pending 2014 Rowan County court case for felony possession of a schedule I substance, felony possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana and marijuana paraphernalia, a pending 2015 case for felony possession of a firearm by a felon and another for misdemeanor injury to real property, as well other cases for habitual felon and drug trafficking.
