Jordan A. Davis, a seminary student at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, joined St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church as an intern July 18. St. Matthew’s, an LCMC congregation, is located at 9275 Bringle Ferry Road.

Intern/Vicar Davis has a bachelor of arts degree in Christian Ministries, Bible & Religion and History from Anderson University.

Prior to entering seminary intern Jordan spent seven months at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Fountain Hills, Ariz.  as a pre-ministry intern. He participated in discipleship training and co-created a Sunday night Lutheran contemporary worship service. He worked as children’s program volunteer with Vacation Bible School, spring and fall children’s camp, Wednesday night youth activities and as a Sunday school substitute teacher.

Davis also has experience as a youth and young adult leader at Maple Grove Church of God and New Covenant Ministry Center in Anderson, Ind. He led young adult Bible study groups, was a youth Sunday-School teacher, facilitated youth recreational activities, and organized and implemented Project 10/40 to raise awareness for missions in youth groups in the Anderson area.

Davis has spent the last year at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Monroe. During his year with St. Luke’ he participated in all phases of ministry to include preaching every other week.

During his internship at St. Matthew’s, Intern Davis will work closely with the intern committee chaired by Shalyn Barrier and committee members Pastor Gary Coble, Lisa Trexler, Tom Waller, Beverly Ludwig, Jim Trexler and Amy Shaver. This  supervising committee will seek to see that Jordan has the opportunities as a seminary intern to gain knowledge and experience needed in a full time parish pastor position. Those opportunities will include preaching, teaching, leading worship, visiting in hospitals, home, and nursing homes, attending committee, group and youth meetings, leading Bible Study, teaching confirmation classes, being very involved with the youth, and doing bulletins and preparing for worship when he preaches.
