Learn to de-clutter, then eat some ice cream

What do clutter and ice cream have in common? Both are being served at the Aug. 4 meeting of Salisbury-Rowan Chapter of AARP. The program begins at 1 p.m. at Rufty-Holmes Senior Center, 1120 S. Martin Luther King Jr. Ave.

Many seniors find that a lifetime of accumulation, collections, treasures and memories can easily turn into clutter. AARP has invited member Jo Kearns, a professional Move Manager since 2009, to talk about “Who Me? Too Much Stuff? How to De-Clutter Your Home.”

Kearns, a certified relocation and transition specialist, runs Smart Changes Household Move Management, a local company that helps individuals and families with the physical and emotional challenges of downsizing, modifying existing homes for comfort and safety, and relocation. She will share tips on organizing the clutter that accumulates.

Following Kearns’ talk and a brief chapter meeting, attention will turn to the Ice Cream Social, offering several flavors and plenty of toppings. The event is free and all seniors 50+ are welcome to attend. Members are encouraged to bring a friend.

The local AARP chapter meets the first Thursday of each month at Rufty-Holmes Senior Center starting at 1 p.m. The local chapter offers members a variety of community service, education, advocacy and leadership, and fellowship opportunities. The local AARP chapter invites area senior citizens to become a member of the chapter. Dues are $3 a year.
