SOUTHERN PINES — Salisbury’s Michael Childress shot a first-round 79 here Saturday at the Trusted Choice Big I Junior Classic qualifier at Mid Pines Golf Club.

The state qualifier concludes today and the top four players will advance to the The Big I Junior Classic, Aug. 1-4, in Sacramento, Calif.

Jimbo Stanley of Raleigh paced the field on Saturday, firing a 4-under par 68.
