STATESVILLE — Devan Lane Black, 19, of Statesville, has been charged with statutory rape of a child he met through Facebook.

According to a report from the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office, the victim’s family reported a sexual assault. The victim was interviewed at the Children’s Advocacy Center in Iredell County and said the two met on Facebook.

Det. Sgt. Jason Lowrance with the special victims unit interviewed witnesses and collected evidence connected to the assault. He charged Black with two counts of statutory rape of a child and one count of statutory sex offense with a child.

Black was arrested June 30 and given a $300,000 bond. Black has several other court cases pending in Iredell, include traffic offenses and assault with a deadly weapon.
