Area Sports Briefs: Intimidators fall to Hickory

The Kannapolis Intimidators lost to Hickory, 7-3, on Thursday at L.P. Frans Stadium.
Tyler Sullivan homered for the Intimidators, but Kannapolis (4-4 second half, 28-50 overall) couldn’t overcome three errors.
The teams play Game 2 of a four-game series in Hickory tonight.
Fans looking for Independence Day fireworks can celebrate at Intimidators Stadium supported by Carolinas HealthCare System on both Saturday, July 2, as well as Monday, July 4.

Junior Legion
Carson lost, 2-1, to Concord on Thursday in a non-league game.
Cory Mullis and Jonathon Ackett provided strong pitching for Concord.
Bryson Taylor had two hits. Taylor and Layne Coward drove in runs.
Sollie Holshouser had two hits for Carson. Maddux Holshouser drove in a run.
Carson (22-4) opens the playoffs at home tonight at 7 p.m.

Prep soccer
South Rowan’s Omar Curiel will continue his education and soccer career at John Wesley University.

South Y
South Y Basketball Camps/Shooting Clinic (Grades 2-8):
The South YMCA has two basketball camps remaining this summer.
The camps will be instructed by Damien Argrett, former South Rowan and Pfeiffer player.
The Shooting Clinic will be July 11-13 from 9 until noon.
Cost is $60 for members and $75 for potential members.
Basketball Camp: August 8-11. Time is 8-3.
Cost is $95 for members, and $115 for potential members.
Participants will receive a T-shirt, snack and lunch at the basketball camp.

Fishing tournament
The 2016 FLW Bass Fishing League tournament season will continue Saturday, July 9, for Piedmont Division anglers with an event on High Rock Lake. Up to 400 boaters and anglers will be competing for top awards of up to $8,000 and $3,000 respectively in the one-day tournament.

American Legion
Pairings were set for the Area III American Legion playoffs late on Thursday.
Kannapolis is the No.4 seed from the South and hosts North No. 5 Winston-Salem tonight at 7 p.m.
Mocksville is the South No. 3 and hosts North No.6 Kernersville. The first round is best-of-three.
