SALISBURY — Salisbury Police say an argument at Lakewood Apartments between people there led to an exchange of gunfire between police and an unidentified person. No injuries were reported, but police say the person who shot at them has not been apprehended.

The incident occurred Thursday at 1:08 a.m. where two Salisbury officers were conducting foot patrols in the area of Ferndale Drive. The officers heard yelling and an argument coming from the area of buildings 800 and 900 at Lakewood Apartments, said Police Capt. Shelia Lingle.

The officers saw a vehicle, with its motor still running, at the corner of the 900 building with a person standing beside it. Officers approached the apartment complex and heard a loud gunshot followed by multiple shots between two buildings.

Officers saw the vehicle drive away and the person standing beside it run to the 800 building. An unidentified man in front of the 800 building shot at the approaching officers. The officers exchanged gunfire with the man. He is described as a bald African-American man wearing a dress shirt.

Police also interacted with a man with a shotgun at the 900 building, who was detained, but not arrested. Police said the investigation continues.

Anyone with information regarding this matter is asked to call the Salisbury Police Department at 704-638-5333 or Crime Stoppers at 1-866-639-5245. These calls can be made anonymously.
