Area Sports Briefs: Carson wins 22nd

The Carson Junior Legion team won, 14-4, against the Kannapolis Royals in a six-inning game on Wednesday.
Luke Barringer had three hits and three RBIs. Cole Hales had two hits. Sollie Holshouser had two RBIs.
Barringer and Hales also got the job done on the mound for Carson (22-3). Barringer struck out five.
Nick Pepper had two hits for the Royals.
It was the last league game for first-place Carson.
Carson hosts Concord in a non-league game tonight and hosts a first-round playoff game on Friday.

Little League softball
Rowan Little League is racking up district championships.
The 11-12 age group won its four games in district play by 100-0 — winning 22-0, 29-0, 27-0 and 22-0.
Rowan didn’t allow a hit until Wednesday’s district championship game. Rowan scored 11 runs in the first inning and won 22-0 against Davie in the title game.

Rowan’s 9-10 team rolled to the district title with 19-0, 10-0 and 15-0 victories and will head to the state tournament in Washington.

Rowan’s 7-8 team won their district championship earlier and will play in Canton for the state crown.

College track
Tennessee graduate Tavis Bailey (A.L. Brown) is headed to the U.S. Olympic Trials.
Bailey is trying to punch his ticket for Rio in the discus at the trials in Eugene, Ore., July 1-10.
Bailey was the 2015 discus NCAA runner-up. He hit a PR (215 feet, 11 inches) last month that is also a qualifying standard for the Olympics . Bailey’s mark ranks No. 3 in the U.S. The top three make the team.

College basketball
Former South Rowan star Johnathan Gaddy has signed with Barber-Scotia’s basketball program.

Women’s basketball
Catawba’s Bri Johnson was named second team on the College Division All-State Women’s Basketball Team on Wednesday.

College baseball
UNC Wilmington pitcher Ryan Foster (Davie) was named to the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association All-State team.

Youth baseball
The China Grove all-stars won the 12U state championship in Cal Ripken baseball on Wednesday.

South soccer camp
South Rowan soccer camp is set for July 25-28 from 4-6 p.m.
The cost is $40. Sign in at 3:30 at the stadium on the 25th.

Intimidators
The Kannapolis Intimidators struck out 15 times on Wednesday in a 4-0 lossto the Rome Braves.
Max Fried struck out nine in six innings, and Carlos Castro drove in all four runs for the Braves.
The Intimidators (4-3, 28-49) mustered six hits, all singles.
The Intimidators start a road trip at Hickory tonight.
Fans looking for Independence Day fireworks can celebrate at Intimidators Stadium on both Saturday, July 2, as well as Monday, July 4.
