SALISBURY — Calls regarding possible drug activity at a Standish Street apartment led police to charge two people with marijuana possession.

When police arrived at the apartment, several men and children who were in the front yard went inside, said Police Capt. Shelia Lingle.

James Henry Osborne, 40, of the 1300 block of Standish Street, was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, simple possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. He was issued a $5,000 secured bond and has since been released from the Rowan County jail.

Joseph Marion Gorham Jr., 16, also of the 1300 block of Standish Street, was charged with misdemeanor marijuana possession and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. He was issued a $500 secured bond and has since been released from the Rowan County Detention Center.

One man, later identified as James Osborne, ran to the back of the apartment and returned to the front. He told police he lived there but did not give them permission to search the home.

Police obtained a search warrant and found the following: a smoking device made from a pill bottle, digital scales, a hookah with marijuana residue, a bong, a halogen grow light, blunts, seven grams of marijuana, bullets, a cell phone and $9,052.

Police also contacted the Rowan County Department of Social Services.
