Hospice & Palliative CareCenter to honor WWII veterans

Hospice & Palliative CareCenter (HPCC) and Rowan Hospice & Palliative Care (RHPC) are involved in a national program called “We Honor Veterans.” As part of the effort to better serve the veteran community, the organizations are currently hosting monthly Veterans Coffee events in 10 central North Carolina cities.

These coffee events provide an opportunity for generations of veterans to get together for free coffee, pastries, conversation and fellowship.

As a result of the Veterans Coffees, many World War II veterans have shared their stories and developed relationships. These new relationships fueled an idea to host a very special event for our WWII veterans.

On Sunday afternoon, August 28, HPCC will host the Spirit of ’45 Celebration, honoring our attending World War II veterans. The event will be held at the Embassy Suites by Hilton Charlotte-Concord/Golf Resort & Spa, from 4 to 7 p.m.

The Spirit of ’45 Celebration will begin with a group photo of our WWII veterans. The evening will include dinner, followed by entertainment featuring “Letters from Home,” and a few short presentations from special guests.

If you or someone you know is a WWII veteran, register today. The Spirit of ’45 Celebration is free of charge for WWII veterans and one guest. The event is open to all veterans as well as the general public. Tickets to the event are $45 per person. Proceeds from this event will be used to support Hospice & Palliative CareCenter’s veterans outreach, education and direct care.

The first Spirit of ’45 Celebration was held in Greensboro in October 2015 and attracted nearly 500 guests, of which 112 were WWII veterans. To learn more about the Spirit of ’45 Celebration, visit www.hospicecarecenter.org and click on the Spirit of ’45 Celebration logo.
