Rowan weather: Heat index could hit 100 degrees

It’s already quite warm, and it’s going to get hotter today. We are now under a code orange air quality action day for ground level
ozone, in effect until 9 p.m. This is a downgrade from code yellow, which was the prediction. An air quality action day means that ground level ozone concentrations within the region may approach or exceed unhealthy standards.

Children, older adults, those with asthma, lung or heart disease should limit outdoor activity.

There’s a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms this afternoon, with mostly sunny skies and a high of 95. The heat index will approach or exceed 100 degrees. West southwest wind at 6-10 mph will bring little relief.

The chance of storms and showers tonight is 40 percent, and it will be mostly cloudy and not very cool, with a low of 74. Winds will calm.

Friday has a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 1 p.m., with partly sunny skies and a high of 91. West wind will blow at 3-8 mph. The chance of rain goes up to 40 percent Friday night, with a low of 70.

Saturday now has a 20 percent chance of storms in the morning, then a slight chance in the afternoon. it will be partly sunny and 86, with northeast wind at 3-7 mph. The same chance of rain holds for Saturday night, with a low of 69.

Sunday will be mostly sunny and 87, with a low of 69.

The usual 30 percent chance of rain returns Monday, with storms possible after 3 p.m. The high will be 87. Same chance of rain Monday night, with a low of 70.

Tuesday also has a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, with partly sunny skies and a high of 88. Tuesday night has the same chance of showers and storms, with a low of 69.

Wednesday will be partly sunny and 88.
