Area Sports Briefs: Bauk playing well in Baltimore

Brian Bauk (Salisbury, ASU) is playing well for the Baltimore Dodgers in the Cal Ripken Collegiate League.
A rising senior at Appalachian State, Bauk pitched eight innings in his most recent outing and beat the Alexandria Aces, 5-2.
He allowed four hits and two runs and struck out four.
Bauk is a two-way player and is 4-for-13 as a hitter with three RBIs.

Malachi Hanes (Catawba) is bating .323 for the SBA Bones of the Southern Collegiate Baseball League.
Hanes has seven RBIs in nine games.

Avery Bowles (Catawba) is 3-1 on the mound for the Kernersville Bulldogs of the Carolina Virginia Collegiate League.

D.J. Laxton (Catawba) is batting .459 for the Deep River Muddogs of the Carolina Virginia Collegiate League.

Tyler Fuller (South Rowan) is batting .444 for the Carolina Crushers of the Carolina Virginia Collegiate League.

Minor leagues
South Bend’s Craig Brooks (Catawba) pitched a scoreless inning on Wednesday and struck out two more hitters.
Brooks lowered his ERA to 1.69 and raised his strikeout total to 34 in 27 innings.
Brooks has 59 strikeouts in 41 innings in his pro career. He’s yet to allow a home run.

The Kannapolis Intimidators lost, 5-4, at Lakewood on Thursday in South Atlantic League play.
Kannapolis scored twice in the top of the ninth to take the lead, but Lakewood answered with two runs in the bottom half.
Landon Lassiter belted a first-inning homer for the Intimidators, who had 11 hits. Lassiter, Seby Zavala, Danny Mendick and Cody Daily had two hits each.

Legion baseball
Rowan County’s game with Kernersville on Thursday was canceled as Kernersville didn’t have enough players available.
Rowan is scheduled to play tonight at home against Steubenville, Ohio.

Parks and Rec
A Salisbury Parks and Rec baseball camp will be held June 20-23 from 9 until noon at the Salisbury High School field.
SHS Baseball Coach Mike Herndon is the instructor. The cost is $30. Camp is for ages 8-14.
