NEXGEN graduates class of 2016

SALISBURY — The Salisbury Rowan Community Action Agency, Inc. NEXGEN programs in Rowan and Cabarrus, in partnership with Rowan-Cabarrus Community College, graduated 10 NEXGEN customers that received their high school equivalency program for 2016.

The NEXGEN customers attended classes from July 1, 2015 to present. The program classes were held Monday and Thursday of each week from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the agency’s main office in Rowan County and from 9 a.m. to noon at Living Waters facility in Cabarrus County.

While in attendance, customers studied the GED curriculum set forth by the community college system using the Test of Adult Basic Education, and completion of the GED required testing was done at the designated community college testing sites.

NEXGEN customers studied all phases of the required GED subjects including reading, language arts, social studies, science, writing and math. All NEXGEN customers had to score 145 to pass each subject. The NEXGEN customers scored an average of 150 and above. During their academic tenure, an additional leadership session was offered by the NEXGEN staff to help customers develop positive social and civic behaviors.

Graduation day was held at the Cabarrus County arena in Concord on May 13. Nine of the 10 graduates were in attendance.

NEXGEN customers:

• Xavier Mock received a forklift certification, OSHA 10 certificate, an OSHAI certification and is currently working to complete the career readiness certification.

• Aquavius Lee received  a forklift certification, OSHA 10 certificate, Microsoft 1 certification, and is working on the completion of the career readiness certification.

• Breauna Harris is working on the completion of the career readiness certification.

• Romello Ford received a forklift certification, OSHA 10 certificate, and is working on the career readiness certification.

• D’Asia Cook received an OSHA 10 certification and has completed the career readiness certification.

• Elijah Kluttz received an OSHA 10 certification and is working on the completion of the career readiness certification.

• Kennedie Lindsay completed the career readiness certification.

• Sara Adkins received a Microsoft 1 certification, Red Cross CPR certification, ServSafe certificate, completed the career readiness certification and received an OSHA 10 certificate.

• Casey Sechler received a ServSafe certification, forklift certification and completed the career readiness certification.

• Amore Williams received an OSHA 10 certification and completed her High School Equivalency Diploma (GED) in three months.
