Humane Society dog washes start Saturday

The Humane Society of Rowan County will begin its summer dog wash fundraisers this Saturday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Tractor Supply, 405 S. Jake Alexander Blvd. in Salisbury. Prices range from $8 to $14, depending on size of dog and amount of hair.

The organization is in need of dry dog and cat food for its Pet Food Bank. Donations of these items may be dropped off at the dog wash. The Pet Food Bank provides food as available to pet owners in financial crisis.

The HSRC is receiving an unusually high volume of calls regarding stray and abandoned cats and dogs in the community. The organization does not operate an animal shelter and cannot accept all of these animals but does attempt to help find appropriate homes.

The public is reminded that animal abandonment is both a cruelty and a crime punishable by law in the state of North Carolina. If you witness abandonment of an animal, please try to get the license plate number of the vehicle involved and a description of the person(s) and report to Rowan County Animal Services.

Reduced cost spays and neuters performed by local veterinarians are available through The HSRC. Please call 704-636-5700 for details or to schedule an appointment.
