A Salisbury man has been charged with multiple counts of having sex with a child and indecent liberties with a child.

Joseph Nicholas Shaver, 40, of 1110 Goodnight Road, was charged in Iredell County after a victim told Iredell sheriff’s deputies she had been sexually assaulted multiple times between 2005 and 2007.

At the time, the victim was 10-12 years old. Shaver was living in Iredell County when the offenses occurred.

Following an investigation, Shaver has been charged with five counts of first-degree sexual offense with a child and 52 counts of indecent liberties with a child.

He is being held in the Iredell County Detention Center under $500,000 bond. He is also being investigated in Mecklenburg County for similar accusations.

Both victims knew Shaver.
