SALISBURY — Raymond E. Bostian, LUTCF, completed his two-day biannual training from America’s IRA Experts with Ed Slott and Company, LLC in Atlanta, Georgia, on May 12-14.

The workshop, which was attended by members of Ed Slott’s Master Elite IRA Advisor Group SM, provided an in-depth technical training on advanced retirement account planning strategies, estate planning techniques and new tax laws, as well as insight on rules and regulations pertaining to the Department of Labor’s new Fiduciary Rule.

“Many advisers want to provide advice in the best interests of their clients, and now with the new DOL legislation, are legally required to do so when it comes to most of their retirement accounts. However, without the knowledge to adhere to the ‘Best Interest Standard’ set forth in the Fiduciary Rule, many uninformed advisers may be inadvertently doing their clients a disservice,” said Ed Slott, CPA, founder of Ed Slott and Company and a nationally recognized IRA expert who was named “The Best Source for IRA Advice” by The Wall Street Journal. “I commend Bostian, who has been associated with our advanced training program for many years, for aspiring to have the latest training and education as it relates to retirement planning and for continuing to invest in his education for the benefit of his clients, well before legislation required it.”

As part of his membership with the organization, Bostian attends two in-person workshop sessions each year on advanced planning topics, totaling nearly 40 hours of in-person training each year. Highlights from this event included: estate tax reduction strategies; advanced IRA trust planning, including when and when not to name a trust as an IRA beneficiary; charitable IRA rollovers and how the PATH Act of 2015 makes qualified charitable distributions (QCDs) a permanent feature in the US tax code; the elimination of two key Social Security filing strategies and revised techniques for income planning; tax planning for investment income; rules for contributing to multiple retirement accounts; IRA creditor protection strategies; overcoming IRA rollover challenges now that more restrictive rules were put in place in 2015; Roth recharacterization and IRA withdrawal strategies; and more.

Training was provided by Ed Slott and Company’s team of retirement experts, including Ed Slott, CPA; Jeff Levine, CPA/PFS, CFP; Beverly DeVeny and Sarah Brenner, JD and included a review of case studies and rulings that impact IRAs and retirement planning overall. Ed Slott and Company’s team of retirement experts, along with many of the advisors in Ed Slott’s Master Elite IRA Advisor Group SM, are often go-to resources for attorneys, CPAs and other financial advisors because of their in-depth knowledge and expertise in all areas of retirement account and income planning.

“Ninety-nine percent of advisors are not aware of the latest tax and IRA distribution rules. That is why it is so important for financial professionals to receive on-going education and for consumers to work with a well-informed advisor,” says Slott. “A comfortable retirement begins with accurate IRA advice, and advisors associated with Ed Slott and Company always have access to the latest retirement account and tax planning rules and strategies available.”
