SALISBURY — Klumac Road’s reopening isn’t far off now.

Three years ago, Klumac Road closed for a multi-million-dollar project that includes a bridge and street realignment. It’s tentatively scheduled to reopen in October, according to N.C. Department of Transportation Engineer Kelly Seitz.

The more than $7 million project involves shifting 0.6 miles of Klumac Road about one block, building a bridge for train traffic and constructing an underpass for vehicle traffic.

Construction crews are currently building the railroad bridge and its accompanying road.

Seitz said rainy weather is one reason for the pace of construction work, which some Rowan residents have complained isn’t progressing fast enough.

Seitz said the road could be open by mid Oct0ber.
