SALISBURY — Now instead of trekking to a salon to prepare for a special occasion, the salon can come to you.

Cristy Walker, owner of Salon C and Nail Spa, has started a mobile salon to help clients get ready for special events in the comfort of their homes or at the event’s venue.

“I just wanted to start something that I would be able to offer the clients, for their big wedding events or prom or any kind of big parties that they have, that would be easier for them if we go to whatever location they’re having it at,” she said.

Walker started assisting at salons when she was 16 years old. She attended The Empire Beauty School in Charlotte and has been a professional stylist for seven years.

She’s lived in Salisbury for the past five years and started the salon at 1349 W. Innes St. two years ago.

The salon has a private feel, with separate rooms for different services instead of an open space.

They offer haircuts, styling, color treatments and chemical services, as well as nail services and waxing for men, women and children.

Walker said she had seen mobile spray tanning on television and that sparked the idea to start a mobile salon.

“I thought, ‘How cool would it be if we had an actual mobile salon where we would go to people’s houses and get them ready for whatever event,” she said.

The mobile salon has been going strong for about a year.

“I’ve always wanted to do a mobile salon just because there’s nothing in this town like it,” she said.

All clients have to do is call the salon and let Walker know what kind of event they want help getting ready for, and Walker gives them a quote. Walker also asks the clients what kind of hairstyles and services they want.

“We like to book a month in advance just to have good notice,” she said.

Walker and her stylists go out to homes or venues to help women get ready for different occasions, which includes doing makeup, hair, nails and waxing. Walker even has a partnership with a woman who can give clients spray tans.

Walker said she is willing to travel to wherever her clients need her to go. Last year she helped get clients ready for a wedding in Greensboro.

“I had somebody ask me if I would be willing to go to Myrtle Beach,” she said.

Along with weddings, Walker said she can help women get ready for prom, bachelorette parties, girls’ nights out and children’s parties.

Clients do not have to be preparing for an event to book an appointment for the mobile salon — they can use it for a girls’ night in.

“We can just stay and do pedicures and hair … or we can get you ready to go out,” she said.

Although the last couple of weeks have been slow, Walker said business has picked up because of prom season.

Walker said other than major holidays, the mobile salon will be available for clients to use for all of their special events.
