Blotter: Concord man arrested Friday for multiple sex crime charges

A Concord man was arrested Friday for multiple sex crime charges, including statutory rape.

Wayne Robert Branch, 54, was charged with two counts of statutory rape and two counts of indecent liberties with a child, according to arrest warrants.

Warrants state the sex crimes occurred in 2015 between June 1 and July 1. The victim was under the age of 16.

He was arrested Friday evening by the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office at 226 North Long Street in Salisbury.

Jail records show Branch remained in the Rowan County Jail on Saturday afternoon under a $500,000 secured bond.

In other Rowan County Sheriff’s Office reports:

• China Grove resident Frankie Eugene Bumgarner, 52, was charged Saturday morning for patronizing a prostitute.

Bumgarner remained in jail Saturday afternoon under a $500 bond, according to Rowan County Jail records.

• Kannapolis resident Christine Elizabeth Morgan, 26, was charged for soliciting prostitution.

Morgan remained in jail Saturday afternoon under a $500 bond, according to Rowan County Jail records.

• Rowan County resident Joseph Brent Cress, 30, was charged Saturday for possession of marijuana paraphernalia and possession of marijuana up to half an ounce.

In China Grove Police Department reports:

• Landis resident Kimber Ann Padgett was arrested Friday evening on multiple drug charges.

Padgett was charged with trafficking opium or heroin, simple possession of a schedule II substance and possession of a schedule II substance with intent to manufacture, sell or distribute.

Warrants state Padgett possessed 4.6 grams of hydrocodone, 11 dosage units of hydrocodone and seven dosage units of oxycodone.

Padgett remained in jail Saturday afternoon under a $50,000 secured bond, according to Rowan County Jail records.
