A Salisbury man faces felony charges after police say he fired into a Newsome Road home early Tuesday. No one was hurt, authorities said.

Ray Leonard Wiseman, 23, of the 400 block of North Craige Street, was charged with felony discharging a firearm into an occupied property. He was issued a $25,000 secured bond and has since been released from the Rowan County Detention Center.

Police responded to a single-vehicle crash near East Council Street and Newsome Road where a van struck a telephone pole. No one was inside the van, but officers spotted a man walking not far from the accident scene.

The man, later identified as Ray Wiseman, had minor injuries. Investigators found spent shell casings in the vehicle.

Just a short distance from the accident was a home in the 100 block of Newsome Road that had been shot into, officials said.

The officer noted there was a shattered window and several holes in the wall. Officials did not provide a motive, but said this shooting was not a random act of violence.
