A Saturday police chase ended with the suspended train operations after two teens took shelter on the tracks.

According to warrants, China Grove police attempted to pull over Dwon Smith, 16, of Rockwell, and Reginald Devone Mills, 18, of Kannapolis, Saturday when Mills was allegedly speeding in excess of 15 miles over the posted limit and driving left of center. The two, driving a 2000 Subaru station wagon, refused to stop after the officer turned on his blue lights, and the chase ended in an accident that caused more than $1,000 in property damage. According to warrants the car belonged to one Eva Armes.

The two allegedly ran from the scene, taking shelter on a nearby railroad right of way. According to warrants, they remained on the right of way long enough that the railroad was forced to shut down train operations.

Smith was charged with felony possession of stolen goods, resisting a public officers and trespassing on railroad right of way. Smith was placed in the Rowan County Detention Center under a $25,000 bond.

Mills was charged with felony possession of stolen goods, felony feeling and eluding arrest and resisting a public officer. He was placed in the Rowan County Detention Center under a $25,000 bond.
