Rowan weather: Hard freeze Saturday night

The news for farmers, grape growers and home gardeners is bad. After one freeze this week, a hard freeze is expected Saturday night into Sunday morning, with lows in the mid- to low 20s.

Those temperatures can kill crops.

Today will be mostly sunny and 60 with less wind, which will be from the west at 5-9 mph. Tonight’s low will be 36, with the same wind.

Saturday will be sunny, too, but only 50 degrees, with west northwest wind at 9-14 mph, increasing to 15-20 mph in the afternoon. Gusts could reach 33 mph.

Then the temperatures drop, with a low of 26 Saturday night, and northwest wind at 5-10 mph. Any plants that can be moved indoors should be. Also keep the elderly and pets in mind and make sure they have a way to stay warm.

Sunday will be sunny with a high near 57. Winds will be light. Mostly cloudy Sunday night, with a low of 42.

Monday will be mostly sunny and much warmer, with a high of 72. A 30 percent chance of showers moves in about 1 a.m., and the low will be 56.

Tuesday has a 60 percent chance of showers, with cloudy skies and a high of 70. The chance of rain diminishes to 30 percent Tuesday night, with a low of 46.

Wednesday will be mostly sunny and 62. The low, with mostly cloudy skies, will be 44.

Another 30 percent chance of showers arrives Thursday, with partly sunny skies and a high of 61.
