EAST SPENCER — The town board has thrown its support for the Central Park Regional Bicycle Plan, which will connect small towns and cities to parks, recreation and historic sites in an eight-county area.

Although the town is not a part of the Piedmont Heritage Loop, a regional loop bicycle route, it is tied to a bicycle grant with Spencer, which is a part of the Heritage Loop.

East Spencer has joined with Spencer in a bicycle and pedestrian plan. The towns were awarded a grant from the state in 2014 for bike and pedestrian planning. The grant is worth up to $40,000 with a 10 percent match.

The board spoke of giving support at its Monday meeting.

The board also appointed Public Works/Planning Director F.E. Isenhour and board member Phronice Johnson to the joint town/county renewal study committee. The hope is the committee will help the town make improvements to dilapidated structures and other improvements in the town.

The board will continue its first budget session at its April 19 work session at 6:30 p.m.
