Editorial: Race for empty 13th District seat full of hope

- The June primary ballot will have 22 candidates for North Carolina's 13th district seat in Congress.
You hear a lot about growing distrust of government and deepening disenchantment with politics. We beg to differ. The recently redrawn 13th congressional district has 22 candidates jumping into the fray that others so eagerly condemn. What drives the high interest? Commitment, ambition, ideology, a desire to serve and, to no small measure, an empty seat. Without an incumbent to unseat or a runoff to winnow the field, any one of the 22 might win the June 7 primary. Wouldn’t it be nice to be represented in Congress by someone from Rowan County for a change?
