Essay contest winners

The Elizabeth Maxwell Steele Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution announces winners of the local DAR History Essay Contest.
The essay contest winners were as follows: Jeremiah Crisco (fifth grade, North Hills Christian School), Jacob Saunders (sixth grade, North Hills Christian School), Lillian Rusher (seventh grade, Knox Middle School), Alyssa Lopez (eighth grade, Sacred Heart School), Mary Caroline Kaufmann (Salisbury High School).
Rusher, Lopez and Kaufmann were also recognized for winning the district DAR contest. The district winning essays will be forwarded to the North Carolina State DAR History Essay competition.

Sacred Heart student goes to state science fair

Sacred heart student Colleen Heuser is advancing to the state level in the NC State Science Fair to be held on April 1-2 at Meredith College in Raleigh. Colleen competed in the NC State Region 6 Science Fair at UNC-Charlotte last week.  She was the only finalist from Rowan County chosen and competed against more than 350 students from nine different counties. Colleen, a 7th grader at Sacred Heart Catholic School, researched “Balloon, Liquids and Gas – Oh My” for her project, looking into which liquids would be better for an upset stomach based on the amount of gas they produced when heated.

Clemson University

The following students have been named to Clemson University’s Dean’s List. To be named to the Dean’s List, a student achieved a grade-point average between 3.50 and 3.99 on a 4.0 scale.
