SALISBURY — Communities in Schools is searching for mentors. Studies show that mentoring has significant positive effects on early warning indicators that a student may be falling off-track.

In addition, students who meet regularly with their mentors are 52 percent less likely than their peers to skip a day of school and 37 percent less likely to skip a class, according to a public and private ventures study by Big Brothers Big Sisters. And young adults who face an opportunity gap but have a mentor are 55 percent more likely to be enrolled in college than those who did not have a mentor, according to the Mentoring Effect.

By being a consistent adult presence in a young person’s life mentors can offer advice, share their life experiences, and help a young person navigate challenges. Mentoring promotes positive social attitudes and relationships.

Communities In Schools is always searching for individuals who are willing to give of their time and talents to encourage youth. Students need empowerment through academics and in life for success in the future. Help a child get to the path of success today. Your relationship with a child could be a factor in the decisions they make in the future.
