SPENCER — Interim Town Manager Reid Walters will suggest that Mayor Jim Gobbel serve as the town’s representative on the Wil-Cox Bridge Steering Committee at the Board of Aldermen meeting today.

The meeting will start at 7 p.m.

According to meeting documents, the Wil-Cox Bridge Steering Committee is currently talking about having representation from Spencer in the group.

The current members of the group include two county commissioners from Davidson County, interested parties of the project and staff from various governments.

The 1924 Wil-Cox Bridge used to carry traffic but is now a pedestrian walkway that connects Davidson and Rowan counties over the Yadkin River.

According to an article from The Dispatch of Lexington, the committee hopes to develop the bridge and surrounding area into a destination for biking, jogging, walking and other recreational activities. It also hopes to add flowers and greenery to the area.

The board will also:

  • Hear departmental reports
  • Hear a report from Interim Town Manager Reid Walters
  • Hear mayoral and delegate reports
  • Hold a public comment session
  • Make an appointment to the Historic Preservation Commission
