EAST SPENCER — David Jaynes is the new administrator for the town of East Spencer, where he’s been working since Sept. 21. Jaynes, 32, sat down with a Post reporter to discuss his goals, objectives and to introduce him to the community.
He is a native of Winston-Salem and is a graduate of Appalachian State University. Jaynes has a bachelor’s degree in political science and master’s degree in public administration.
Q: What are your goals for the town?
A: Redeveloping the Dunbar Center, to see the revitalization of Royal Giants Park come to fruition, to see progress and development along the gateway, to see more community interaction. I’d would like to see us have some community activity once a month. Beginning Jan. 6 the town will have a blood drive from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at town hall. I’d like to see more citizens become firefighters and police officers.
Q: Who is someone who inspires you?
A: Franklin Delano Roosevelt and Abraham are my biggest role models. They overcame tremendous adversity, especially while serving as president.
Q: What is your favorite book?
A: The bible. The Chronicles of Narnia series by C.S. Lewis.
Q: What is your favorite quote?
A: In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing, the next best thing is the wrong thing, and the worst thing you can do is nothing — Theodore Roosevelt
Q: If you could have dinner with anyone dead or alive who would it be?
A: Jesus Christ or one of his disciples.
Q: What have you enjoyed thus far about your job?
A: Being able to see the impact of decisions we make as a town to help others.
