Big Band All-Stars set concert to benefit Communities in Schools

Rowan Big Band All-Stars will give its annual Christmas in Swingtime Concert to benefit  Communities in Schools of Rowan County at 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 13.

The band, made up of area musicians, has prepared a program of Christmas and holiday music to be presented in the Sanctuary of First Presbyterian Church, 308 W. Innes St.

Featured vocalists on the program include Alexis Cowan, principal at North Rowan Middle School; Nikki Jones Bailey, Concord dentist and West Rowan High School alumna; and Bill Bucher, former finance officer of the Rowan-Salisbury Schools.

There is no admission charge for the show.  A love offering will be accepted to benefit Communities in School-Rowan.

Communities in Schools is the nation’ s top dropout prevention program. CIS of Rowan County, chartered in 2001, offers in-school mentoring and tutoring, supportive guidance to students and parents, school unitorms and supplies, referrals to community agencies and assistance with emergency clothing for students at the elementary schools.
