Moore is Featured Artist 

MOORESVILLE — Don Moore will be the Featured Artist for the Mooresville Arts Depot Center for December of 2015. The exhibit runs through Jan. 7. The opening reception will be Friday, Dec. 11, from 6-8 p.m. He describes his work as nostalgic and fantastic like the month of December. First Friday: Salisbury Sings in the Season 

From 5-9 p.m. on Dec. 4, join in the festive First Friday in Downtown Salisbury. Bring unwrapped packages to the Visitors Center,  204 E. Innes St., before 8  p.m. to have complimentary gift wrapping by Santa’s elves.

Hop aboard the Trolley Gift Express to make the journey to the Visitors Center easy and quick. Various trolley stops will be located throughout downtown. Horse and carriage rides will be departing from West Fisher Street near Caniche.

 

Lee Street theatre presents  ‘It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play’ 

The beloved American holiday classic comes to captivating life as a live 1940s radio broadcast. With the help of an ensemble that brings a few dozen characters to the stage, the story of idealistic George Bailey unfolds as he considers ending his life one fateful Christmas Eve.

Tickets are now on sale for “It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play.” Show dates are Dec. 10-13 and 17-19. Sunday matinees are at at 2:30 p.m. and all other shows are at 7:30 p.m.

The show was written by Joe Landry and is directed by Heather Wilson-Bowlby.

Holly Jolly Christmas Show Holiday Event

Rowan County Fair Association announces the inaugural Holly Jolly Christmas Show at the Rowan County Fairgrounds on Dec. 12 and 13. This show brings an upscale shopping experience to Rowan County.

The event will be open Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $1 plus two canned goods or $3; those under age 12 are free. All food items will be donated to Faith Lutheran Church’s community food bank. The Main Street Baptist Church women’s fellowship will be available for gift wrapping.

Come on out and shop with 85+ craft and small business vendors, to include a winery, bakeries and ministries. Enjoy face painting, Christmas music, visit with Santa and Mrs. Clause, enjoy some barbecue and finish the day with a horse and carriage ride with Simmons Carriages.

Fridays@First begin at Fumc

The FirstARTS series of First United Methodist Church begins its annual free Fridays@First Advent Series on Friday at noon with a concert featuring renowned North Carolina trumpeters Paul Neebe and Anita Cirba, joined by organist Matthew Michael Brown. The concert will feature trumpet and organ music by J.S. Bach, Francesco Manfredini, George Frideric Handel, and others.

Paul Neebe is highly accomplished across classical music genres as a soloist, orchestral musician and chamber player.

Anita Cirba serves as Principal Trumpet of the Winston-Salem Symphony, Greensboro Symphony Orchestra, The Carolina Chamber Symphony, and is Co-Principal Trumpet of the Arizona Music Festival Orchestra.

The series continues each Friday of December with guest artists from across North Carolina. Other artists performing in the series include Juilliard-trained musical theatre artists Kathleen Jasinkas and Charles Hyland with pianist Deborah Hollis on Dec. 11 and ending with “Songs to the Christ Child” performed by soprano Lurline Richardson, tenor Matthew Arnold, baritone Eric Powell, and violist Peter Ayoso on Dec. 18.
