More Area Sports Briefs: West Bulldogs win thriller

KJ Hernandez hit a 3-pointer with 30 seconds left to give West Rowan a 30-27 win against Mooresville (2-2).
Jay Joseph had 11 points and 10 rebounds, while Quay Weeks had nine points and eight rebounds for the Bulldogs (3-0).
Zeb Burns, Will Moseley and Jonny Hassard had strong defensive games for West.
West will play Southeast next Tuesday.

Salisbury Academy
Salisbury Academy’s varsity boys basketball team won against Cannon School and North Hills for the championship of the Sacred Heart Tip-off Tournament.
Archie Dees scored 17 points against North Hills. Charlie Barr, Hank Robins and Noah Stockton played well on defense.

Salisbury Academy’s jayvee boys lost 23-19 in overtime to Forsyth Country Day in the championship game of the Tip-Off Tournament. Salisbury Academy won against Sacred Heart to avance to the championship game.
Leading scorers in the tournament were Josh Portillo, Wade Robins, Harrison McCall and Zeb Harry.
The jayvees defeated North Hills 38-19. Harrison McCall scored 14 points for the Jaguars.

Salisbury Academy’s jayvee girls were runner-up in the Sacred Heart Tip-Off Tournament, losing 9-4 to Forsyth Country Day after beating Sacred Heart 8-1.
Salisbury Academy’s jayvee girls lost 6-3 to North Hills. Abby Lawson scored all of SA’s points. Riley Peltz, Brooke Cunningham and Morgan Jeter were strong on defense.

Local golf
Charlie Barr and Michael Childress played in the North Carolina Junior Golf Foundation tournament at Duke.
Barr shot 85-82 — 167 to finish third in the middle school division.
Michael Childress shot 80-76 — 156 to finish fourth in the high school division and tied for first among golfers in grades 9 and 10.

The McCanless Couples played a Texas Scramble in their latest outing.
The first-place team was Susan Houston, Azalee Story and David Huneycutt.
The team of Harry Owens, Chris Livengood and Jimmie Jones took second place.
Owens won longest putt.

College soccer
Pfeiffer’s men (23-0) won 5-4 against Palm Beach Atlantic on Sunday in West Palm Beach, Fla.
Nathan Regis scored two goals.

College volleyball
Winston-Salem State topped Shaw 3-1 for the CIAA tournament title.
