U.S. Rep. Richard Hudson will have a town hall meeting in Salisbury on Friday to discuss issues specific to senior citizens.

Hudson, a Republican who represents the state’s 8th Congressional District, will have the town hall meeting at 10 a.m. at the Rufty-Holmes Senior Center, 1120 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave. Hudson is scheduled to attend. Also invited to attend are representatives from North Carolina Department of Insurance, Rowan Chamber of Commerce, Novant Health Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury VAMC, Rowan County Senior Services, Rufty-Holmes Senior Center, NC Housing Finance Agency, Meals on Wheels of Rowan and the American Red Cross.

The event is scheduled to last until 11:30 a.m.

Hudson’s town hall meeting is specifically intended to focus on issues important to seniors, including basics on the Medicare open enrollment period, according to an event announcement.

“As the ending of the open-enrollment period for Medicare approaches, the Senior Services Seminar will help answer questions for seniors and their families,” Hudson said. “I encourage folks in our community to join us as we discuss critical issues and benefits available to help seniors live easier, happier and healthier lives.”

The open-enrollment period for Medicare beneficiaries happens annually from Oct. 15 to Dec. 7. It’s the only time during the year, except in unique circumstances, when current enrollees can make changes to existing plans or prescription drug coverage.
