The votes are in. A recount of votes for the fifth seat on Rockwell Board of Alderman determined that the original election results hold and Stephenie Walker won.
Candidate Lori Bridges called for a recount when she lost to Walker by a razor thin margin. Bridges received 69 votes, Walker received 71.
Bridges filed her request for a recount with the Rowan County Board of Elections shortly after lunch, Wednesday. The Board of Elections met Friday at the County Building at 1:30 p.m. for the recount. Several members of the Rockwell Board of Aldermen were also present.
While ballots were fed into the counting machine, Walker watched with her daughter. She said she supported the process and would have called for a recount if she were in Bridges’ position.
“I’m just hopeful the numbers stick,” she said.
They did. The recount determined that Walker kept her 71 votes and Bridges her 69. Walker will take the fifth seat on Rockwell’s Board of Alderman.
Bridges was not present for the recount and could not be reached for comment.
