SHS tennis takes third round win over Hendersonville

SALISBURY — Salisbury’s girls tennis team blanked Hendersonville, 6-0, in the third round of the state 2A dual tournament here Thursday afternoon.
The Hornets will play for the West Regional Championship today at 4 p.m., at Lake Norman Charter School.
“The girls played very well today,” said Salisbury coach Milton Griffith. “I was proud of them all. We will have a battle on our hands against Lake Norman Charter, but our girls have played for this moment all year long and they will raise for this great occasion.  I’m just excited that we have made it this far.”
All six of Salisbury’s singles players won easily, winning in straight sets. Hendersonville won a total of just eight games.
At No. 1 singles, senior Kayla Honeycutt defeated Haley Fair, 6-2, 6-0. At No. 2, another senior, Kathryn Rusher, steamed past Annabelle Webb, 6-1, 6-1. Senior Grace Steinman took No. 3 singles, topping Amy Yarborough, 6-1, 6-1.
Maria Capito, a sophomore, breezed past Hamrick Perry at No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-1. At No. 5, sophomore Julia Honeycutt topped Ellie Jull, 6-0, 6-1, and at No. 6 singles, senior Emily Capito blanked Rachel Morrow, 6-0, 6-0.
