‘City Deer Country Deer’

Shirley A. Collins has written and published the children’s book, “City Deer Country Deer” and will be signing it on Saturday, Nov. 7, 3-5 p.m. at Spanky’s Homemade Ice Cream and Deli, 101 N. Main St.

Collins says the story is about two young deer coming from two different worlds. By chance the two meet and share adventures together. She says the final thought in the book is that anywhere can be a good place to live if you know the dangers to watch out for. The book is intended for young children.

Collins, originally from Mocksville, urges children to stay in school and learn all they can. “This is the best thing you can do for your future.” She thanks God most of all for his help in her life. Collins believes that children can be anything they want when they grow up.

After working a manufacturing job for a short time, she went back to school and graduated from Surry Community College. She gives her own children credit for what they’ve done and how they have inspired her.

The price of the book will be $7 at the event. If a purchase is made at Spanky’s the day of the signing, a receipt will take $1 off the price of the book. Collins will give another $1 discount if this article is brought to the signing (the Salisbury Post is not involved in the book’s publication, sale or profits). Cash only will be accepted. The book is also available online and at www.tatepublishing.com

A recent graduate of The Art Institute in Charlotte, where he earned his associate degree, Delaney was  born and raised in Rockwell.

When donating books at Erwin and East, he said “It’s the places that made me who I am.”

Delaney lives in Kannapolis and is planning a five-part series, starting with this book. He says it is a fantasy geared toward young adults.

He works full time and writes between midnight and 3 a.m.

Here he describes his book: “In a world far from our own, a dark force wishes to consume all living beings to end everything. Battling this force for centuries the Gods of Light decide to use one last ditch effort to bring peace and order back. Choosing a young man from our world to be their last resistance against the Darkness and unable to return home until his mission is finished. Arata Moore will make new friends and enemies along his path. Can he survive or will the Darkness consume him as it has so many others.”

The book, published through CreateSpace, is available at amazon.com in Kindle format at at the iTunes store, where the book will be free for about a month. He will do a podcast on Jan. 15 at www.newbiewriters.com..
