Area Sports Briefs: LC wins golf tournament

Rain washed out the final round of the National Black College Hall of Fame Tournament, and Livingstone’s first day total of 301 made the Blue Bears the Division II champions.
LC’s Phillip Harrison shot a 73. Teammate Stephen Washington shot a 74. Those were the low rounds of the tournament.
The Blue Bears have one more fall tournament at the VSU Trojan Fall Classic on Oct. 25-27.

N.C. State freshman Davis Richards (South Rowan) shot 69-73-67 in the Golfweek Conference Challenge in Iowa.
Richards was 7-under, tied for fifth and helped the Wolfpack place second.

The Catawba men’s golf team is seventh after Monday’s first round in the Tusculum Fall Classic.
Freshman Trey Burton shot 73 to lead the Indians.

College baseball
Former East Rowan and Charlotte star Ross Steedley is now the hitting coach for Gardner-Webb.
Steedley, who batted .324 in his career at Charlotte, also works with the catchers.

Postponements
Salisbury-Lexington soccer was postponed and rescheduled for Oct. 28.
Salisbury-Lexington tennis was rained out Monday and will be played today.

Prep golf
Cox Mill won Monday’s SPC golf match at Warrior.
The Chargers shot 126, Carson shot 134. Hickory Ridge was third at 136.
Carson’s Micah Furr and Cox Mill’s Jaime Cassell were co-medalists with 35s. Adison Collins shot 47 for Carson. Hannah Cargill shot 52.
East Rowan shot 145. Micah Loper and Hailey Fesperman shot 48s to lead the Mustangs. South Rowan shot 165. Lea Morris’ 52 led the Raiders. West Rowan shot 176. Ella Ferguson and Maddie Owen shot 58s to lead the Falcons.

A.L. Brown finished second to Hough in Monday’s MECKA match at The Tradition. Ashlea Rose shot 51 to lead the Wonders.

Prep volleyball
Gray Stone (10-0) won 25-20, 25-17 and 25-10 against South Davidson on Monday in YVC action.
Shannon Efird had 14 kills and five blocks. Megan Frick added 11 kills. Caroline Cody had 17 assists, while Michelle Kimmer had 12. Gray Stone is at South Stanly today.

Local tennis
The Salisbury Rotary Fall Tennis Classic has been canceled.

Rockwell Christian
Rockwell Christian’s varsity soccer team tied Shining Light 2-2. Micah McDaniel and Landon Hall scored for the Chargers.

Rockwell Christian varsity volleyball was swept by Community Christian of Bessemer City.
Allison Miller had 12 kills. Abbie Hoehman, Sarah Drye and Karah Lanham had eight kills apiece.
