A nearly 2-year-old girl drowned Monday afternoon in a backyard pool at a home in southeastern Rowan County.

The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a home on Castor Road around 3 p.m. Monday, the agency said in a news release.

Deputies arrived on the scene along with responders from the Bostian Heights Fire Department and Rowan County EMS.

Medical responders attempted to revive the victim, but were unsuccessful, the news release said.

According to information gathered at the scene, the child was discovered face down in an above-ground pool behind her parents’ residence, the Sheriff’s Office said. Her parents immediately called 911.

The little girl would have been 2 years old in October, according to the news release.

The Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation.

Castor Road is located south of Faith and west of Rockwell. It extends between Faith Road and N.C. 152.
