CONCORD — Kacey Otto’s 58-yard touchdown pass to Juwan Houston with 1:52 remaining lifted West Rowan to a 28-21 win at Concord Jay M. Robinson on Friday.
It was the South Piedmont Conference opener for the Falcons (2-1 overall). Robinson already has played four league games and is 2-2.
West Rowan scored two of its four touchdowns on defense.
Robinson scored first for a 7-0 lead.
Strong safety Theo Fisher’s 27-yard fumble return put the Falcons on the scoreboard in the second quarter. A try for a two-point conversion failed, and West trailed 7-6.
West Rowan scored again in the second quarter on a 14-yard run by Jovon Quarles. Quarles added a two-point conversion run, and the score was 14-all at halftime.
With the Falcons trailing 21-14 in the third quarter, free safety Malcolm Ingram intercepted a pass and returned it 32 yards for a score. Austin Morrison’s PAT tied the game 21-all.
Ingram then intercepted another pass late in the fourth period that set the stage for Otto’s game-deciding strike to Houston.
