Oak Park Retirement will host a Sept. 22 presentation to help senior citizens and others identify and protect themselves from scams.
Caroline Farmer, deputy director of the Victims and Citizens Section at the N.C. Department of Justice, will lead the seminar.
North Carolinians lose millions of dollars each year to consumer scams including scams associated with sweepstakes, charities, identity theft and more.
To help seniors and other consumers protect themselves against scams, Attorney General Roy Cooper’s office provides free educational presentations to community groups.
Farmer is a native of Raleigh. She received her undergraduate and law degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
She worked for several years in former Gov. Jim Hunt’s administration as an agency liaison and director of highway beautification. Prior to joining Cooper’s staff in 2003, she was in private practice.
The Sept. 22 presentation begins at 2 p.m. and is open to the public. Oak Park is at 548 White Oak Drive, Salisbury.
