Racers speed to finish line during back-to-school event
Children, start your mental engines.
Dozens of cars sped around Millbridge Speedway Wednesday during a back-to-school event at the track. The event raised money for Food for Thought, which provides meals to children in need in Rowan County. The speedway’s owners donated $1 for every ticket sold to the organization. Raffle tickets also contributed to the total amount donated — $1,000 — to Food for Thought.
Local company Richards Painting helped organize the event.
The young racers participating in the back-to-school event first sped through time trials. Then, they were matched up for a series of races.
Rowan-Salisbury School System Superintendent Dr. Lynn Moody said the back-to-school event at Millbridge Speedway was exciting and allowed students to show their passion for racing.
