Area Sports Briefs: SC edges Randolph for 26th straight win

South Carolina champ Chapin-Newberry beat host Randolph County 3-2 on Friday and stayed undefeated in the double-elimination Southeast Regional .
Ryan Stoudemire, who closed Thursday’s 6-5 win against Rowan County, pitched a complete game for the S.C. champs (26-0).
Clay Richardson had three hits for Randolph County (27-16), which suffered its first tourney loss.
Chapin-Newberry plays the Florida champs for the second time tonight at 7:30 p.m. in Asheboro. Chapin-Newberry beat Florida 4-3 with a ninth-inning run in the first round.
Randolph will play Rowan County for the seventh time this season in a 4:30 elimination game today.
Florida 12, Alabama 4
Leadoff man Preston Kolke had five hits and Richard Ruth drove in three runs as Tallahassee, Fla., eliminated Tuscaloosa, Ala. Florida trailed 3-1 after one inning but pounded out 17 hits.

Intimidators
Michael Suiter extended his hitting streak to 17 games, but the Kannapolis Intimidators lost 3-0 at Greensboro on Friday.
Greensboro pitcher Michael Mader kept Kannapolis quiet at NewBridge Bank Park.
Thad Lowry (11-6) worked six innings for Kannapolis and took the loss.

Local golf
Michael Childress shot 70-76-72 — 218 to finish 14th in the CGA junior golf tournament in Cary at Prestonwood Country Club.
Lyerly update
In the Trusted Choice Big I Championship in Kansas, Nick Lyerly shot 71-71-74-78 and finished 14-over. He tied for eighth.
Rowan Junior Open
Eighty-one golfers will tee off at Irish Creek on Monday and will play at Warrior on Tuesday.

In the River Hills Classic, Frank Adams III shot a third-round 76 and is tied for 24th at 1-over.
