ROCKWELL — After a major remodeling, Powles Funeral Home is reopening as Powles Staton Funeral Home.

“We are excited to announce our grand reopening as Powles Staton Funeral Home,” owner Steve Staton said in a press release.

“Although our name has changed and our funeral home is newly remodeled, we want to assure the community that we’ll continue to offer the same incomparable funeral care they’ve come to expect from us over the years.”

The newly renovated Powles Staton Funeral Home features a warm, welcoming atmosphere with a contemporary design, updated furnishings and state-of-the-art technology, the funeral home said.

“We wanted to provide the most comfortable environment possible for the families we serve,” Staton said.

“Guests will notice the difference as soon as they walk through our front door. Our updated funeral home is the perfect place to gather, reminisce and celebrate a loved one’s life.”

Staton is inviting members of the community to stop by and check out the newly renovated facility.

“I think families will be pleasantly surprised by the changes we’ve made,” he said. “We’ve transformed our funeral home into a truly beautiful and special venue — the ideal place to pay tribute to a loved one.”

Powles Staton Funeral Home has served families in Rowan and surrounding counties for nearly 80 years.

Powles Funeral Home was established in 1933, when L. Council Powles purchased the business from W.R. Ridenhour and moved the facility from Depot Street to Main Street. In 1936, Powles built a new facility on West Main Street, where the funeral home is now located. For 35 years, Powles and his wife, Reba, operated the funeral home.

In 1968, Roy B. and Geraldine H. Staton purchased Powles Funeral Home and completed a number of updates and renovations to the facility. In 1977, Roy and Geraldine’s son Stephen returned to Rockwell and joined his parents at Powles Funeral Home.

In 2001, Steve and his wife, Vicki, took ownership of the funeral home, making them the second generation of the Statons to operate the family-owned business.
