Women’s conference

LEXINGTON — Today beginning at 10 a.m., The Jewels of Destiny Prayer Ministry, of the Blessing of God Ministry, 412 Westside Drive, is hosting its fourth annual women’s conference on the theme of “Sowing In Tears.”

On Sunday at 3 p.m. Pastor Monica Massey of Holy Ghost Tabernacle of Greensboro will be the guest speaker. Block party at Conquerors Shield of Faith today

KANNAPOLIS — Conquerors Shield of Faith, 416 N. Rose Ave., is hosting a block party today from noon to 3 p.m. with games, crafts, prizes, music, lunch and more, all free.

The Men Over Sixty

KANNAPOLIS — The Men Over Sixty of the Carolinas will be celebrating their 12th anniversary today at 5 p.m. at United  Missionary Baptist Church, 30010 Clermont Ave.

There will be local groups, plus The Royal Gospel Quartet of Greenville, S.C. will also be performing.

Cedar Grove Gospel Choir anniversary

The Cedar Grove Gospel Choir will celebrate its 58th anniversary this evening  beginning at 6 p.m.; in- and out-of-town groups will participate. The anniversary will conclude on Sunday at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Carolyn Bratton, pastor of Moore’s Chapel AME Zion Church,  as the guest speaker. The Rev. Bertha Pittman is pastor of Cedar Grove.

Liberty Baptist celebrates homecoming

SPENCER — Dorsett Chapel United Church of Christ will be celebrating its annual homecoming service on Sunday at 3 p.m. The Rev. Timothy Bridges, pastor of Shady Grove Baptist Church in Spencer, is the guest speaker.

Dorsett Chapel’s annual revival will be held Aug. 4 – 6 at 7 p.m. nightly. The Rev. Leamon Brown, pastor of First Calvary Baptist Church, is the guest speaker.

 

Homecoming at Oak Grove Baptist

CHINA GROVE — Oak Grove Baptist Church, 1205 S. Main St., will observe its annual homecoming on Sunday at 3 p.m. The speaker will be the Rev. Dr. C. L. Phelps, pastor of Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church of Salisbury. Dinner will be served at 1:30 p.m.

Revival services will begin Monday. The speaker for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights will be the Rev. Frank Thomas, pastor of Mt. Zion Baptist Church of High Point. The speaker for Thursday and Friday nights will be the Rev. Dr. Nathan Scovens, pastor of Galilee Missionary Baptist Church in Winston-Salem. Services begin at 7 p.m.

In My Father’s House Outreach Ministries

In My Father’s House Outreach Ministries, led by the Rev. Roosevelt Jenkins, continues its series on The Purpose Driven Life, on Thursday, Aug. 6 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the Hurley Room at Rowan Public Library, 201 W. Innes St.

CWU annual Human Rights Celebration

New Zion Baptist Church, 2785 Dunns Mountain Church Road, will host the Church Women United Human Rights Celebration on Friday, Aug. 7.

The Rev. Carol Hallman, pastor of First United Church of Christ, will be the guest speaker. CWU gather annually to learn, worship and celebrate all God’s people and our work for justice. The theme for this year is Journey Toward Peace. The program begins at 7 p.m. and ends with refreshments provided by the CWU unit. Community Health Fair at Solid Rock Church of God

Solid Rock Church will host a Community Health Fair sponsored by Novant Health and Novant Health Breast Center on Saturday, Aug. 8 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.  Novant Health will sponsor free blood pressure monitoring, free diabetes screening, education and more. No appointment is necessary.

Novant Health Breast Center’s Mobile Mammography Unit will be on site for screening women age 35 and over. Mammograms are covered as a preventive screening under most insurance plans and require an appointment.
