Dianne Greene is the new president of the Salisbury Rotary Club, succeeding Jay Dees
A member of the club for more than 15 years, Greene has served as program chair for the Salisbury Rotary’s Community Recognition Awards, honoring pubic safety groups from Salisbury and Rowan County.
Greene recently served as the first female chairperson for the Rowan County Chamber of Commerce in 78 years. She has also chaired boards of directors for Communities in Schools, Rowan Works, the Salisbury-Rowan Association of Realtors and the Rowan County Airport Board.
A member of the Community Bank of Rowan board, she has also served on the boards of the Salvation Army and Rowan-Cabarrus Community College.
Greene said her goal for the coming year is to help people understand what incredible things Rotary is doing and has done in the past. “This year’s theme is ‘Be a Gift to the World,’ and our club certainly does its part,” she said.
The Salisbury Rotary Club’s service focus is on education. Dr. Windsor Eagle reported at a recent meeting that the club had give out $370,000 in college scholarships to local high school seniors since 1998. Each year, the club now gives eight $1,000 scholarships to RCCC, one for a senior from each of the county’s public high schools, including the Early College and Henderson; and two $5,000, one for Livingstone College and one for Catawba College. The scholarships are based on academic achievement and need. The colleges choose the recipients.
Krista Woolly reported that 42 club members volunteered to help at the Missions of Mercy free dental clinic held at Catawba this spring. The clinic treated 723 patients, providing $418,087 in free care.
