Editorial: Dome dilemma

Let’s hope generous benefactors take an interest in the dome planned to crown the new central office for the Rowan-Salisbury Schools. The dome’s steel supports have gone up, but so have construction costs. The system does not have the funds to complete the feature, originally estimated to cost $341,000. It’s not clear whether dome costs have gone up or other expenses put the school board in this awkward position. But the dome is an extra and as such should not be paid for with county funds. Lots of people have lobbied for a structure — with a dome — that will make the community proud. One of them needs to organize a dome drive, ASAP.
