Livingstone graduate Quanera Hayes placed fifth in the USA Track and Field Championships in Oregon.
Hayes ran 51.27 in the final.
Allyson Felix on in 50.19 seconds.

Minor leagues
The Asheville Tourists used eight innings of two-hit ball by starter Carlos Polanco to beat the Kannapolis Intimidators 4-0 on Saturday.
Ryan Leonards was the only intimidator to reach base against Polanco. He was 2-for-2 with a walk.
Asheville took a 3-0 lead in the second inning off Intimidators’ starter Luis Martinez (2-7) who walked three straight with the bases loaded .
The Intimidators and Tourists continue their five-game series on Sunday at 5:05 p.m.
• Joseph Peeler (East Rowan) had his first pro strikeout on Thursday in the Arizona League in a game against the Athletics rookies.

Local golf
Eric Edwards (Salisbury) earned one of nine spots Saturday in a qualifier held at Pinehurst No. 8 for the 115th North and South Amateur.
Edwards shot 71 and tied for second place.
The championship starts Monday at Pinehurst No. 2.
• In the CPGA Junior Championship held in Conway, S.C., at The Hackler Course Nick Lyerly (East Rowan) shot a first-round 68 and is in a three-way tie for first.
• In the eGolf Tour’s Mimosa Hills Open in Morganton, Salisbury’s Frank Adams III shot 71-64-66-70 — 271. He finished at 9-under, tied for 21st and won $1,550.

Junior Legion
Carson won 9-2 against Rowan County on Saturday.
Maddux Holshouser pitched a complete game for Carson. He allowed four hits and struck out five.
Larson Beacham had two hits and four RBIs for Carson.
Chandler Lippard had two hits for Rowan County.
