Summer Meal Program starts Monday

Published 12:00 am Friday, June 12, 2015

Once again, Rowan-Salisbury School System’s Summer Meals program is about to hit the streets.

Last summer, the district was able to serve more than 68,000 meals to children in the county through a grant with USDA.

Beginning Monday, free, nutritionally-balanced breakfasts and lunches will be delivered to dozens of sites throughout Rowan county for anyone under the age of 18 to enjoy.

Each day of the week has a designated menu. The breakfasts include cereal, muffins or Pop Tarts, served with juice or milk. The lunch menus include sandwiches, pepperoni pizza and a variety of fruits and vegetables.

Some of these sites are closed sites, and are only open to students who are enrolled in the program located at the site, but many sites – 21 to be exact – are open to the public.

Children do not need to prove if they are on free or reduced lunch to participate in the summer meals program.

To find the location nearest you, search in the district’s Nutrislice mobile application, or visit http://rss.nutrislice.com/meal-locations/
