Salisbury Police are investigating a case involving a 16-month-old girl they say is at Carolinas Medical Center Levine Children’s Hospital with suspicious, life-threatening injuries.

Rowan County EMS responded on Wednesday at 10:22 a.m. to 1022 E. Lafayette St. in Salisbury where a child was unresponsive. The child was taken to Carolinas Medical Center NorthEast and later transferred to the Levine Children’s Hospital where she is listed in critical condition.

Rowan County Department of Social Services is also involved in the investigation.

Neighbors at the complex, all of whom did not wish to provide their names, said it was sad and unfortunate what happened to the child.

Police Capt. Shelia Lingle said investigators are awaiting tests and scan results to determine further action.
