The team of Anna Robinson and Carolynn Reis won the 34th annual Edgar Welch Memorial Golf Tournament.

The two-day event was  played at Corbin Hills and the Country Club of Salisbury.

The team of Becky Isenhour and Wendy Kinsell won second low net. The team of   Carolyn Williams and Elaine Akerman won third low net. The team of Tammi Drew and Susan Houston won fourth low net.

The team of  Kristi Laton and Phyllis Durland won first low gross. The team of  Beth Calhoun and Toni Iossi won second low gross.

Local golf

In the eGolf Tour’s Willow Creek Open in High Point, Salisbury’s Frank Adams III has shot 69-69 — 138 and is 6-under. He’s tied for eighth.

Livingstone track

Livingstone sprinter Quanera Hayes, one of the top D-II women in the 200 and 400, is one of 51 CIAA athletes competing in  the  Division II Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

The championships are May 21-23 in Allendale, Mich..  at the Grand Valley State  Track and Field Complex.

Catawba camp dates

Head coach Rob Perron and the Catawba men’s basketball staff announced the launch of a new summer camps website.

The Rob Perron Basketball Academy at Catawba College features a diverse variety of camps with affordable, competitive pricing packages.

Throughout the summer, Catawba will host six different camps, open to individuals, prospective student-athletes, and teams as well.

The summer gets kicked off with the Position Play Camp on June 14-15. This camp focuses on skill development for the entire player, both on and off the court. Catawba offers hotel accommodations, meals, and two days, one night of high-level basketball instruction.

Next is the “Summer Sweet 16” Jamboree, a one-day team camp jamboree open to varsity, jayvee and middle school teams, on June 16. Teams are guaranteed a minimum of four games throughout the day, and all campers will receive T-shirts.

The  annual Team Camp runs from June 30-July 2.

It’s open to varsity, jayvee and middlechool teams. There is a guaranteed minimum of 11 games over the three days and there are options for on-campus housing and meals, all explained on the camp website.

Catawba will offer Individual Camp on July 6-9, open to boys ages 5-15.

Campers age 5-8 can attend camp for a half-day rate of $75 while campers ages 9-15 can attend camp for the full-day rate of $150, with 8-year-old campers having the option to stay for a half-day or full-day. This is a fun-filled, educational environment.

The Elite Camps, now offered over two  sessions, are for ages 12-18 and will be held Aug. 2  and Aug. 9.

Elite camp is open to the first 100 participants, for the flat rate of $50 per camper per session.

This is a great opportunity for prospective student athletes to showcase themselves and learn  how to raise their game to the next level.

Minor leagues

The Kannapolis Intimidators announced catcher Ryan Plourde, 23, has  been promoted to  Winston-Salem.

Former Intimidators —  outfielder Michael Danner, catcher Zach Fish  and pitcher Jefferson Olacio —  have been transferred to Kannapolis from Extended Spring Training.

The Intimidators  placed Nick Basto and Hunter Jones on the disabled list.

• The Intimidators won twice on Thursday with great pitching.

They beat visiting Hickory 2-0 in both games of a doubleheader.  It marked the first time the Intimidators shut out an opponent in back-to-back games since July, 2013.

Spencer Adams (1-3) worked five nnings, allowing no runs, five hits, while walking one and striking out four in the opener.

Matt Cooper earned a save.

Christian Stinger and Louie Lechich had RBIs.

In the nightcap, Yency Almonte pitched a gem. Jefferson Olacio earned a save.

Michael Danner had two doubles for the Intimidators. Lechich drove in both runs.

American Legion

In Wednesday’s American Legion games, Randolph County beat Mocksville 10-5 and Kernersville won a 14-13 slugfest against Davidson County.

• Southern Rowan hosts Concord at 7 p.m. on Saturday. Rowan County’s early games were postponed.

NHL

CHICAGO — Frederik Andersen made 27 saves, helping Anaheim kill off five power plays, and the Ducks beat the Chicago Blackhawks 2-1 on Thursday night for a 2-1 lead in the Western  finals.

Defenseman Simon Despres scored his first career playoff goal in the second period as top-seeded Anaheim bounced back quite nicely from a triple-overtime loss at home in Game 2. Patrick Maroon had agoal and Ryan Getzlaf had two assists.

Ryan Kesler’s two holding penalties contributed to more than nine power-play minutes for the Blackhawks, but the Ducks’ penalty killers kept most of Chicago’s opportunities to the outside and Andersen stood his ground during a couple of goalmouth scrums.R
